On November 7, 1856, a young doctor, Joseph Girard, and his partner, teacher Urs Schild, decided to seize the opportunity of the tremendous development of watchmaking. Finding a gap in the market for the availability of clock mechanisms, found by friends, Joseph and Urs founded their manufactory - "Dr. Girard & Schild." The products they produced quickly caught the attention of experienced watchmakers, who were eager to establish partnerships with the young manufacturers.
